This post will be a bit all over the place. Not much to say.
Yesterday, I spent the day hanging out with Nick (LS) boyfriend, Hero. I met up with him so that he could help me translate an appointment at a skincare clinic. While waiting for him at a subway station, I noticed a shopping store women kept walking into. At first I told myself I really don’t need to shop right now but as I kept seeing more people walk in, I was really curious as to what they had. I went down the steps because it was practically in a basement setting, and looked around. I would describe it similarly to a Forever21. The store is called Tomato. They had everything. Literally an abundance to choose from. I was walking around with so many clothes I had to stop and put it on a random table I found. Apparently that table was being used because a worker came over with a pile of clothes to fold and put it almost directly on top of mine. I couldn’t remember how to say sorry, so I tried to ask for a bag. She brought one over for me and I said thank you multiple times in Korean. She laughed and nodded her head. It was a cute interaction lol. Anyways I spent about $200 on clothes and Hero met me in the store. We walked to the clinic it was pretty close. Once we got there, the moment I asked him to translate, a guy interrupted and mentioned that he was an English translator that worked there and could help me book the appointment. So I was grateful for that. Hero can understand most English but still struggles with certain words so it made it a lot easier having an English speaker do that for me. I am officially trying a treatment on Monday (tomorrow!).
Aside from that, we just walked around and shopped. Got some Pho, groceries, and went home. It wasn’t really an exciting day. Busy yes, but nothing writing worthy.
I guess I can summarize how my entire week has been so far. I enjoy being put in uncomfortable situations and doing things by myself. Every time I have some interaction with someone who is Korean, I ask them to correct my pronunciation or teach me something new. Only 2 people so far have tried to teach me new words and I’ve already forgotten them lol. But almost everyone I’ve asked has smiled and laughed at my questions and they seem to really enjoy hearing an American learn their language. “Thank you” is my best pronounced and used word, so every time I use it in a new setting, I am looked at in surprise. Nick said most Koreans do not expect me to know the word so it is a good thing. So far the only words I know are “thank you” (gamsahamnida), and “hello” (annyeonghaseyo).
I’m in a rush right now I’ve been all over the place these last 2 days so I haven’t been writing. Will write more sometime soon.
